Hungry for new storytelling toolkits, resources, and platforms?
Curious about using objects in performance?
Intrigued by puppetry?
Join us for a puppetry and object-based performance incubator for artists of color co-presented by Rough House Theater, Links Hall, and the Arts Leaders of Color Network!
The artistry of puppet making and performance has a rich history with deep roots in cultures all over the world. Puppeteers of Color Incubator (POCI) aims to give ALANA (African, Latinx, Asian, Native American) artists a platform to explore and reimagine this genre.
As an artist in the Puppeteers of Color Incubator (POCI) incubator, you’ll attend performances, participate in workshops with leading contemporary puppet artists, work with an individual mentor, and have the option to present new work at the Chicago International Puppet Theater Festival
The workshops will focus on puppet manipulation fundamentals, principles of visual storytelling, and devising for performance, with opportunities to develop and present new puppet pieces in an encouraging environment.
Performers, visual artists, storytellers, writers, engineers, and animators all encouraged to apply!
Puppeteers of Color Incubator (POCI) will run from June 2018 thru January 2019.
No prior experience in puppetry required!
