Casting & Molding Department Instructor | Chicago Industrial Arts & Design Center

The Chicago Industrial Arts & Design Center (CIADC) is growing! To meet expanded needs, we are looking for an Instructor in our Casting & Molding Department starting January 2019.

Candidate should have the flexibility to teach weekday evening class(es) and possibly Saturday morning class times. We are looking for someone who can teach fundamental skills to diverse audiences and interests, and who would bring a unique, creative mindset to our organization. This person should be enthusiastic in working within our industrial "maker space" and want to be a part of our creative community, helping the Department grow towards our goals.

CIADC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, charitable organization with a mission to provide education, working access, and community for 3D object makers working in materials/processes requiring industrial workspace, specialized skill sets, and shop equipment. We offer programming for both Teens and Adults in Casting & Molding, Metalworking & Forging, Technology & Design, and Woodworking, and cater to all interests and skill-levels!

Skills & Qualifications: 

Ideal candidate has:

  • In-studio, group teaching experience, adult ages
  • Working and teaching experience in mold making: flexible, resin-bonded sand, green sand, and investment
  • Working and teaching experience in cold cast materials: plaster, concrete, resin
  • Working and teching experience in foundry methods: aluminum, bronze
  • Working and teching knowledge of fiberglass cloth and carbon fiber fabrication/molding a plus, but not necessary
  • Working and teching knowledge of kiln cast glass casting and cold working a plus, but not necessary
  • Teenage (12-17) teaching experience a plus, but not necessary
  • Stong communication (verbal and written) and organization skills
